Developmental Editing

$0.03 per word

The most in-depth editing option, developmental editing involves a thorough edit of your manuscript with comments and in-line tracked changes focused on “the big picture” of your story. Clients will receive their marked manuscript with all comments and tracked changes as well as a 20-30+ page summary letter detailing each area of focus, making suggestions, and guiding your revision.

Developmental editing focuses on:

  • Overall narrative structure

  • Character development and motivation

  • Narrative pacing

  • Description and setting development

  • Plot development

  • POV usage and development

  • Voice and tone development

  • Narrative Consistency (e.g.: all names, descriptions, timeshifts, etc. are congruent.)

  • As well as any other areas particular to the manuscript

Each developmental editing client also receives a Zoom consultation to review the summary letter and answer any questions the client may have. As well as a second review of the author’s revisions to ensure the manuscript is ready to move on to copyediting.

All edits follow the Chicago Manual of Style unless otherwise requested by the author.

Manuscript Evaluation

*Pricing varies depending on manuscript length

Manuscript evaluation is a good fit if you are looking for overall feedback on your work. What level of editing does it need? Where do you need to focus your revision before moving on to editing?

This option does not include in-line edits, but rather a 15-20+ page review of your manuscript detailing what is working and where to spend the majority of your revision energy.

The manuscript evaluation letter touches on (but is not limited to):

  • Character development

  • Plot development

  • Pacing

  • Tone

  • POV usage

  • Setting and Description

  • Voice

  • And other areas tailored to the individual manuscript

Each manuscript evaluation client also receives one Zoom consultation to discuss the evaluation and ask questions.

Authors who complete a manuscript evaluation and then decide to book another level of editing with me receive a discount on their next editing package.
